I'm guilty of that as well. I've made resolutions that I know I'd probably never be able to keep, just because I felt like I had to resolve to do something. Like if I didn't, something would happen. It's a New Year, you're supposed to make resolutions. That's the Rule. Where I fell down was not making resolutions that applied to my life, instead just making the vague "I'm going to be a better person" BS. I'm already a good person. I know this, and resolving to be a good person is unnecessary.
So instead, my resolutions for 2014 will have everything to do with writing. Here they are. Whether or not I will actually keep them will depend entirely on me.
1. I will try to write one short story every single day. It can be as little as 100 words and as long as...well, I can make it. But I will give it my best effort.
2. I will try to submit my stories to as many sites, magazines, etc as I can. I need to get noticed, and even free publicity is good publicity.
3. I will work on another novel.
4. I will prepare myself for acceptance but not be upset at rejection. I know I'm talented, but I also know there's tons of writers out there submitting stuff.
So there's my New Year's resolutions. Will I keep them? Time will tell.
