The last notes fade away and the player stands, tipping over his chair onto the empty floor as he too fades away into memory.
The notes sound sweet and low as the piano player's fingers ghost over faded keys. Picking out a melody that is old as time, perhaps older, the silence broken by the music and bored shuffling of feet. This is the last day for this club, once a bright, bustling place full of life and color, now reduced to an old, tattered mess. But the music still fills the air with the memories of merriment gone by, of days when this was the place to go. Look around. You can almost see the ghosts of the past, resplendent in white ties, evening gowns, and glittering jewelry. Listen to the ever changing music, piano keys picking out classical, jazz, blues, and once in a while some rock.
The last notes fade away and the player stands, tipping over his chair onto the empty floor as he too fades away into memory.

Silence falls across the land.
Darkness follows close at hand. The night birds sing their lonesome song Have you truly been gone so long? I walk around in a foggy haze Wishing for those golden days When this house was full of love and life Instead of sorrow, woe, and strife. My darling girl, I miss you so Why ever did you have to go? Now all is quiet, cold and dark, What once was bright is harsh and stark. Life holds joy for me no more And I pray that Death comes to my door To take me away from this harsh plane And into your arms once again. Taking a bit of a break from Time and Tide to post this.
I AM: Ambitious. I have dreams that I want to achieve and places I want to go. Bright. I try to learn something new every day. Colorful. I surround myself with bright things and many colors. Though yeah, my favorite is dark blue. Determined. I set goals for myself and do my very best to achieve those goals. Exuberant. I face life head on, head up, and with the belief that I can do anything I put my mind to. Friendly. I try to get along with everyone I meet and tend to see the best in people first and foremost. Geeky. I can talk for hours about fantasy, science fiction, and horror. Honorable. I won't lie and say I don't lie, but I try to tell the truth more. Intelligent. I'm no Einstein, but I get by. Working on crosswords helps a lot. Just: I don't pass judgment until I know both sides of a story. Kind: What's the point in going through life with a chip on your shoulder? Loony: Because life's no fun if you don't have some fun. Madcap: See above. I'm weird and I love it. Nifty. Really, I am. Outgoing. I may be shy at first, but once I know you, I open up. Passionate. About my writing, mostly. It's what I'm best at, and I know it. Quick on my feet when it comes to certain things. Reflective. Snarky when the mood strikes me, and it strikes quite often. I also love bad puns, so be wary. Talented. I'm a good writer and I know it. Unique. There's no one quite like me. Very Modest. As this list bears out. Witty. X-citing. (Don't you love creative spelling?) Young at heart. Zany. So that's the ABCs of Me! Happy March, everyone! A few quick announcements from your friendly neighborhood Fool!
First, the big one: I unfortunately did not win the Writer's Digest Short Short Story Contest. However, I will be holding on to my story and will most likely try to submit it someplace else in the future. So for now, you'll still be in the dark. But regardless, I'm happy I entered and proud of what I wrote. I'm waiting on my copies of Phobos to arrive in anticipation of the Book Fair on the 12th. I've got cards printed up, and will be bringing copies of chapters for my current novel, Time and Tide. I also have an Author Bio that I need to update. Here's hoping I sell lots of books! And speaking of Time and Tide: I've got synopses for up to Chapter 8 written and posted, and I have a pretty decent idea of how I want the book to end. As of right now, I'm aiming for a maximum of twenty chapters. I've currently got rough drafts for Chapters 1 and 2 up, and will at some point get to writing the rest of the chapters. But I'm not beholden to any deadline, which means I'll have more time to edit as I go and make certain each chapter is as good as I can make it. I am going to enter a writing contest for a chance to spend time at the Hemingway house in Key West. Happily, I don't have to write the story in his style. So I may go the To Have and Have Not route and write something that has nothing to do with Hemingway at all. And of course I'll do my best to post short stories, lists, thoughts, etc. That's all for now. |
