10. EC Comics. These are the comics I grew up reading. Where other geeklings were reading about Superman and Batman, I was reading about baseball zombies and cannibalism. My first intro to Bradbury was through the pages of EC, and I devoured every gory, bloody panel.
9. Bone. I only read this a few years ago, but the story, characters, and situations made it one of my favorites. It's...hard really to describe. There's these creatures, there's a princess, and there's...cow racing. It's in black and white, which really suits it.
8. Saga. Again, something I recently discovered, but definitely a great read. It's about two very different people that fall in love in the middle of a war and get married. But it's so much more than just that. It's funny, erotic, scary, suspenseful, and well worth checking out.
7. The Wicked and the Divine. OK, so the premise is that every 90 years, the gods are reincarnated into the bodies of young people, who then die two years later. There's a murder, and an ordinary girl(who isn't so ordinary, but I won't give away the twist) has to figure out what's going on.
6. Fun Home: The odd life of a family who runs a funeral home. By Alison Bechdel(the lady behind the Bechdel Test)
5. Severed: A young boy during the Depression has a run in with a cannibalistic hobo who eats children to steal their dreams.
4. I Hate Fairyland: This one is pretty new, so far as I know. It is a completely and utterly BATSHIT comic, and it is GLORIOUS. A young girl gets transported to Fairy Land, and has to complete a quest in order to go home. Simple enough, right? But...it's taken her 37 years, and she hasn't physically aged. She's a bitter, axe crazy woman. Also, I'm pretty sure the art is by the same guy that did Invader ZIM.
3. MAUS: The horrors of Nazi Germany and the Holocaust as told by a family of mice. This is one comic that everybody should read at least once.
2. American Vampire: A nice twist on the vampire legend with some clever lore of its own. The series stretches from the Old West all the way to World War 2, and all the characters are a lot of fun.
And my absolute, never going to change position, best, most favorite comic of all time is....
1. SANDMAN. The characters, the lore, the intricate storyline, the perfect blends of comedy, tragedy, horror, drama, and action, all add up to, what is in my opinion, the absolute most perfect comic ever made.
So that's my list. Read all these comics.
